THE Great British Beer Festival has been officially opened by Burton’s MP.
Andrew Griffiths opened the festival, organised by the Campaign for Real Ale CAMRA), before an audience of 3,500 people at London’s Earls Court.
Other Burton connections to the event — which is expected to be attended by an estimated 75,000 people this week — include an ale wagon laid on by Burton’s National Brewery Centre.
Mr Griffiths, who serves as chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group, said: “It was a real honour to have been asked to open the festival.
“I also served as a judge of the Champion Beer contest.
“There were nine finalists, but unfortunately there were not any from Burton.
“The Great British Beer Festival is the biggest event of its kind in terms of the amount of beer and the number of visitors.”
