William Roache joins the campaign to save Fox's in Uttoxeter
The fight to keep Fox’s biscuits in Uttoxeter had a major boost with star backing from a member of the cast of Coronation Street. William Roache, universally known as Ken Barlow gave his backing to the campaign after being approached by Conservative Prospective MP Andrew Griffiths

Hundreds of people across Uttoxeter and East Staffordshire have signed a petition to keep Fox’s biscuits in Uttoxeter.
Save Fox's petition launched
A petition has been launched to show support for the Uttoxeter factory threatened with potential closure. Northern Foods recently announced that it planned to close either it’s facility in Uttoxeter, or one in Batley in Yorkshire, in order to develop a new ‘super factory’. The company said a new "super site" would be created at the successful site by 2011, but it had not yet decided which factory would close.
People in Burton have been urged to support the National Memorial Arboretum in a competition to secure £2.4 million of National Lottery Funding. The Armed Forces Memeorial at the national Memeorial Arboretum has been nominated for a Best Heritage Project Award. The awards are an annual search to find the Uk’s favourite lottery-funded projects.

In a dramatic show of people power, a petition with over 7000 signatures against post office closures in Burton and Uttoxeter was presented to Number 10 Downing Street.
Residents in Burton & uttoxeter face the prospect of a second wave of post office cuts, as new warnings emerged of more closures thanks to Gordon Brown’s government. Under the current closures, Burton will have lost half of its post offices since 1997. However, fresh news from the Federation of Sub-Postmasters means that a further 1 in 4 post offices now face being shut forever, meaning that Burton constituency could lose another 5 branches.
The proposed closure of Marchington post office will leave disabled and elderly people in the village stranded according to local Conservatives opposing the closure.

Conservatives at Staffordshire County Council say the closure of post offices across the county will be bad news for local communities, particularly elderly people and those without cars. At a meeting of the County Council they accused the Labour administration of failing to follow the lead of other counties which are lobbying central Government and finding innovative ways to secure the future of local post offices.
Burton’s MP has been urged to put people before politics and support a parliamentray motion which could save post offices in Burton from closure. The call comes ahead of a vote in Westminster on Wednesday which could stop all branch closures.

Conservative Parlimentary candidate Andrew Griffiths, has criticised a Royal Mail plan to charge large postal customers higher prices for delivering bulk mail in rural areas. A number of postcode sectors in Uttoxeter are in the area the Royal Mail considers the most rural, and will attract the biggest surcharges. Under the proposal from the Royal Mail prices are set to increase by over 10.2% for bulk mail deliveries in rural areas while prices in urban areas rise by only 3%.

Burton MP Janet Dean has been condemned by her Conservative Opponent for voting herself £10,000 to spend on "spin and propaganda". The comments came as MPs awarded themselves an extra £6.5 million of taxpayers' money to fund what Mr Griffiths condemned as their own 'shameless self-promotion'. Every MP will be entitled to claim an extra £10,000 a year in expenses to 'communicate' with their constituents.
