Andrew Griffiths launches the Save Fox's petition

A petition has been launched to show support for the Uttoxeter factory threatened with potential closure.  Northern Foods recently announced that it planned to close either it’s facility in Uttoxeter, or one in Batley in Yorkshire, in order to develop a new ‘super factory’. The company said a new "super site" would be created at the successful site by 2011, but it had not yet decided which factory would close. Uttoxeter has about 930 staff compared to 1,280 jobs at the Batley biscuit factory.  The new super factory could employ up to 1500 people.

An on-line petition has been launched at www.savefoxs.com.

The website was set up by Andrew Griffiths, Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Uttoxeter. Andrew said,

“Fox’s Biscuits is important to local people, and its closure would be a devastating blow for the town and for many families locally.  Coming on the back of job losses at both JCB and nearby Toyota, it is clear that the economic future is very uncertain. Many generations of families have worked there and it is of crucial importance to local people and the local economy."
